Systems for Order

An important issue raised in our first readings was the work of creating engagement with the data narrative. One of the most important ways to do this is to bring order to your design, developing entry points and a visual hierarchy to assist the reading of the design.

Discussing alignment in Universal Principles of Design, the authors write that elements in a design should be aligned with one or more other elements to create a sense of unity and cohesion, contributing to the design’s overall aesthetic and perceived stability. Alignment is also be a means of leading a user into and through a design.
